Thus Shall It Be…Part 3

‘The real destiny of Man is something that ordinary men could not conceive and would be unable to comprehend, even if given a glimpse of it.
Our revolution is a final stage in an evolution that will end by abolishing history. It is my ultimate aim to perform an act of creation, a divine operation, the goal of a biological mutation which will result in an unprecedented exaltation of the human race and the appearance of a new race of heroes, demi-gods and god-men. – Adolf Hitler

And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. – Genesis 11:4

The history of man is a history of rebellion. From the moment Eve tasted of the fruit even to today, human beings have been attempting to determine their own fate, set their own course, and be their own god. All false religion is based upon this precept, whether that religion believes that we can become gods or not. God has set forth His plan. He has accomplished the basis of it through the shed blood of His Son so that all we need to do is recognize His Lordship over us and we will be free and have eternal life – but even today, man seeks to go another way. He follows after a plan of his own making; and, it is a plan which is destined for failure.
Such was the case with Adolf Hitler. As a history major with an emphasis in European history, one of my favorite courses in my undergrad years was the History of Nazi Germany. It was a study of human psychology and historical events that to me had great theological significance as well. Here we say man’s depravity on full display and here was see a repetition of the days of Noah. How so? Oh, the players were different but the concepts were definitely the same.

In Germany in the 1930s and 40s, you had a people who elevated a man to a place where he was considered the Savior of humanity. You had a rejection of God’s standards and a pressing forward to some new path – a path of man’s own making. You had a resurgence in looking towards the gods for guidance. You had the promise of future glory as a motivation – just as the people of Babel sought after – the people of Germany looked to make a name for themselves. And, you had Satan, old splitfoot, attempting once again to ruin God’s plan – to wipe out God’s people – and to set himself up as ruler over humanity.

In prepping for this blog, I sat down and read a good bit of Hitler’s infamous work, Mein Kamph. Concise is not a word I would use for the Fuhrer; rather, the terms evil genius and raving lunatic simultaneously come to mind when I think about what I read. The section that I delved into was his section on the role of race in human history. Hitler was of the mindset that in the glory days there was a race of superhumans akin to Friedrich Nietzsche’s Übermensch, popularized as supermen, who were superior to the humanity of his day and only died out because they had mixed their blood with that of inferior races. These Übermensch were the great builders of culture in times past and were responsible for the art and literature and architecture and glory of all which came before. If there was culture in the present day, it was a reflection of the influence of these supermen upon the earth; and, it was Hitler’s expressed goal to try to get back to the times of these supermen, whom he referred to as Aryans (and who had little in common with the actual Aryans who ultimately settled in Northern India) through the use of eugenics throughout Germany and the world. It was his plan to backbreed those of purer stock so that the Aryan parts flourished, and to obliterate parasites in society such as Jews who only served to corrupt the gene pool. To accomplish this, he of course first segregated the Jews into ghettos (and later into concentration camps for extermination) while setting up his Lebensborn program which bred the desirable racially pure races and adopted racially pure orphans. By this genetic manipulation, he promised the German people, demoralized from a World War 1 defeat, that they would once again be on top and that life would be grand. In fact, he went one step further and invoked the idea of a return to the gods and demigods in his spiel – which, from our point of view shows precisely where his inspiration came from.

Bundesarchiv_Bild_102-04062A,_Nürnberg,_Reichsparteitag,_SA-_und_SS-AppellAnd, he was able to deliver results – at least for a while. Economically and socially depressed, through the policies of Hitler and some fortuitous trends in society as a whole, Germany was among the first to climb out of the hole of the Great Depression and set itself on a path towards economic prosperity. It must have been very difficult at that time not to get wrapped up in the hype and the glamour of Hitler’s accomplishments and massive theatrical spectacles of his appearances such as the Nuremberg rally – where he was presented with such great pomp so as to invoke a godlike stature that would make most of the dictators of history envious.

He took advantage of this public worship and used it to do the unthinkable. Of course, I believe the man was demon possessed; but, what of society? Supposedly civilized Germany went right along with his rounding up of dissidents, extermination of the Jews and others, forced sterilization of those he considered genetically flawed and dictatorial ways. Sure, many probably did so because they wanted to survive themselves; however, that in itself says a lot. In Hitler, we had full-scale human evil – and nobody but the allied armies was able to stop him – and many simply had no desire to. He promised the moon, and delivered much of it. The German people’s lives improved greatly from the days where they were wheeling their wages home in wheelbarrows. Amazing what people will do for a little prosperity. They will vote in the devil himself if it brings peace and prosperity. Hitler didn’t hide his views; but the people excused them and went with him any way. Any lack of peace they had was only temporary for their Fuhrer had to make a few adjustments to the world structure before his full dream could be realized. The world needed hope and change and he provided it – at least for a while – at least on the surface – at least if you weren’t Jewish or evangelical Christian or dissenting Catholic or mentally disabled or homosexual or anyone he didn’t agree with.

And so, WWII closed with a society witnessing the horrors that were Nazi Germany and they all of one accord said “never again.” But, sadly, we don’t teach that history any more and so a generation of young people are graduating with no conception of how bad things can go and a naive outlook on where leadership without God can take us. The phrase, “those who learn nothing from history are doomed to repeat it” has never been more true than it is today. The scary thing is we at least had a Judeo-Christian America to stand up and go against the tide in those days. Do we have that today? Not by a long shot.

So, we’re poised. We’re poised to accept the promise. We’re poised to follow a leader. And when the right crisis comes along, we’re poised to throw caution to the wind and embrace anything that will bring us hope. We will joyfully exult in gaining the whole world, reaching our full human potential and beyond – even if it means losing our soul. Danger lies ahead. Some very dangerous trends are beginning to repeat. Is anyone listening?

Many aren’t – even though the signposts are all around them. For example, futurist Ray Kurzweil envisions a day coming very soon where we will not die. He envisions a Utopia where man merges with machine and if there is an illness in one’s system, a nanobot or some other implanted technology will go fix it. He sees this as the next step in human evolution and boldly proclaims that not only is he not going to die, but that he’s going to bring the dead back to life. He is so engrossed in these technologies that he really believes he will bring his late father back to life. Kurzweil is very brilliant, and very naive.

On the flip side, men such as retired artificial intelligence researcher Hugo de Garis fully realize the risk, but forge ahead anyway. De Garis said, “I’m predicting there will be a major war, late 21st century, between two human groups. So one group, they will argue that the only way to insure the risk [of artificially intelligent machines destroying mankind] is zero, is that they’re never built in the first place. But the second group, for them it will be almost like a religion to build these things because they will be godlike. And so you’ve got here the source of a bitter conflict between these two human groups. Then with late 21st century weapons, you’re talking about a major war that will kill not millions of people, but billions. As a brain builder myself, am I prepared to risk the extinction of the human species for the sake of building an artilect? Because that’s what it comes down to….[deep exaggerated breath followed by a slight grin]… yep!” (Quote directly taken from the film Transcendent Man 2009, Barry Ptolemy, director).

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk quipped about a potential existential danger to humanity with Artificial Intelligences (AIs) “If its [function] is just something like getting rid of e-mail spam and it determines the best way of getting rid of spam is getting rid of humans . . . ”

Some are so concerned that they are beginning to explore the possibility of programming morality into the AIs. They are so serious about it that in an article entitled : Now The Military Is Going To Build Robots That Have Morals , Patrick Tucker at defenseone.com notes:

“The Office of Naval Research will award $7.5 million in grant money over five years to university researchers from Tufts, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Brown, Yale and Georgetown to explore how to build a sense of right and wrong and moral consequence into autonomous robotic systems.” He also notes: “Some members of the artificial intelligence, or AI, research and machine ethics communities were quick to applaud the grant. “With drones, missile defines, autonomous vehicles, etc., the military is rapidly creating systems that will need to make moral decisions,” AI researcher Steven Omohundro told Defense One. “Human lives and property rest on the outcomes of these decisions and so it is critical that they be made carefully and with full knowledge of the capabilities and limitations of the systems involved. The military has always had to define ‘the rules of war’ and this technology is likely to increase the stakes for that.”

Still, the question is whose morailty would they be programmed to have? In the same article, AI Robotics expert and critic, Noel Sharkey said “I do not think that they will end up with a moral or ethical robot,” Sharkey told Defense One. “For that we need to have moral agency. For that we need to understand others and know what it means to suffer. The robot may be installed with some rules of ethics but it won’t really care. It will follow a human designer’s idea of ethics.”

As smart as robots may become, any “morality” they have is simply going to be encoded in them from their designer’s set standards. Moral decisions interpreted by an American with a western mindset may be considerably different than the moral decisions of a Jihadist; and history shows that any technology that we obtain with some useful military purpose (which is one of the uses of robots and AIs the military is reportedly exploring) will shortly find itself being used by the other side for less pleasant purposes. So, one may imagine not only a war between human opponents but between transhuman and post human opponents who reflect the same mindset as their creators only they are intellectually exponentially smarter, more powerful, and have greater life-spans. Some are even working to where nano-technology will make them self-healing. Hmmmm, “men” living for 1000 years and pursuing anything his heart wishes without fear of death or judgment? What could possibly go wrong?

Another criticism of this brave new world they are leading us to is that of population control. With men living longer and longer and being able to procreate longer and longer they are either going to have to createa scenario where we will not need the things that today are required for us to live (water, food, medicine, oxygen) or restrict the ability to reproduce. This latter point is being discussed quite openly as an August article from Wired online declares “It’s time to consider restricting human breeding.” Here, futurist Zoltan Istvan states “Given the number of children that starve each day, dwindling planetary resources and the coming transhumanist era, it might be time to consider restricting human breeding.”

Master races of intelligent beings…

Programmed moral standards with a militaristic bent…

Restricted human breeding…

Where have we heard all this before?

Of course, the whole move towards changing human beings into something not human is not new. It has its beginning in the book of Genesis promise in chapter 2 “ye shall be as gods.” and  chapter 6 with the fallen angel’s rebellion against God. Futurists like Kurzweil disavow the very existence of God and instead relegate Him to the area of “metaphor” or something that they have yet to create. Ignoring the curse, and boldly proclaiming the goals they will achieve and what year they expect to achieve them, these mere mortals are the kind of folks that Psalm 2 talks about.

2 Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?

2 The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying,

3 Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.

God’s answer to them will be the same as then:

4 He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.

5 Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

6 Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.

7 I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

8 Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.

9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.

10 Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.

11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.

The rebellion and arrogance and delusion of man knows no end. Satanically inspired, these men and women who can’t even keep a networked computer free from teenaged hackers in their mother’s basements believe they are going to create gods and demigods? Amazing! It would be laughable if the movement wasn’t gaining such steam.

Where do I think this is all heading? Stay tuned for the next few posts.

Thus shall it be…Part 2

The days of Noah were marked by violence and forbidden alliances.  They were marked by perversion and idolatry.  It was a time where evil was exulted at every hand and, in all humanity, only righteous Noah and his family were able to escape from the judgment which fell upon the earth.

During the first several weeks on this blog, we looked in depth at what the situation was like during those days and made a case that Satan was trying to disrupt the plan of God by setting himself up as creator and corrupting the human gene pool.  This idea is not unique and several authors such as Tom Horn, L.A. Marzulli, Gary Stearman, Chris Putnam, & Russ Dizdar spend a lot of time in their writings expounding on this time and history and on the time which is coming upon us now.  I draw a lot from these men and their ideas, though I try to do my own research so as to not just repeat what they have put forward. Still I give credit to each of these men.  I may not be 100% in theological agreement with them on every matter, but on this topic they are guaranteed to make you think outside the box and are very good at tying the bow on that same box.

What is it about modern days that they have discovered and have passed on to researchers such as myself through their teachings?  In short, they have highlighted what is being done what in plain sight that most people are oblivious to – the age of transhumanism and the quest for an immortal post-human reality.  This is not made up stuff.   When I started this blog, I set up Google alerts to send me stories related to the topic.  They appear daily.  And as I look for the latest news on sites like Drudge report, I am witnessing the increasingly frequent emphasis on articles relating to the topic as well.

What is going on?  Well, in a world of Evolutionary thinking – the fittest are trying to survive.  Modern science and philosophy is trying to come up with ways to cure diseases and ultimately to set up the next stage of human evolution – a robotic era where you exist in software form with a downloaded mind, personality, and set of experiences in a hardware body (i.e., a robot or a virtual avatar).    The robot breaks down, all they do is transfer you to another shell.  The fact that we can’t even seem to get bugless versions of operating systems right doesn’t seem to affect their utopian viewpoint that all of this is possible; and, they forge ahead with their quest in spite of many voices warning of the dangers and the shaky ethics of the whole premise.

Let the Programming Begin

Transhumanism is here to stay as industry leaders and world visionaries not only continue to collaborate on what this future world will look like but subtly condition societies mind for its eventual introduction.  Take for instance a commercial for the Droid DNA phone by HTC.  In the video, a man walks into futuristic laboratory where he sits in a chair to receive his dna augmentation.  As he sits there, his right arm is injected with the substance that literally goes in and reprograms his DNA giving him super speed and super intelligence.  The commercial ends… “Predicted intelligence with Google Now Complete.  Introducing Droid DNA by HTC.  It’s not an upgrade to your phone, its an upgrade to yourself”

The follow-on commercial is more of the same.  Making a better man through technological manipulation. Upgrading oneself.  Being who you were created to be but better – with super strength, super speed, super intelligence.  Hmmmm, where have we heard that before?

Another commercial for IBM E-Business shows what shopping in the future may be like as an enhanced chipped human being.  No longer deal with the hassle of waiting in lines.  Just grab your stuff, walk through the turnstile where you are scanned and go.  Revelation 13 anyone?

The brave new world of Transhumanism may seem to be nothing but theory and speculation, but it is being worked heavily and according to schedule.

Watch this video to see where we are heading.

The people who are behind this agenda have tremendous power, influence, and intelligence and they are shaping our world, through the use of technology, into the future that they foresee – or are being guided towards – where man is merged with machine and controls his own universe – or so goes the mantra.  In reality, it is a world of group-think and slavery to the system that is so fantastical that even George Orwell couldn’t have imagined it.

More on the transhumanist agenda in posts to come.

Thus shall it be…Part 1

And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.   They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.  -Luke 17:26-30

A terrible time is coming upon the world and yet now is.  Even as I write this posts the four horses of the Apocalypse are being fitted for their ride and the noxious smell of death is all around us.  Just this week in America we have seen two horrific things take place.  In Oklahoma, a man who had been a convert to Islam for perhaps a year demonically stormed into his former place of work and beheaded the first person he saw, all the while, according to witnesses, shouting Islamic phrases.  This incident is being called workplace violence, but we all know that domestic terrorism is the white elephant in the room that our politically correct culture can not speak of, and the story of workplace violence rings about as true as Ft. Hood’s ISIS wanna be’s tale rings.  Then there is pestilence.  Ebola has now found its way to America – not, through the transfer of the sick from other lands here for treatment, but by an unsuspecting unquarantined individual who has been in contact with who knows how many people in how many places.  The world is a scary place right now.  And yet, it appears that the number one story this week, if I am to judge by its appearance on nearly every American internet news source for several days in a row is not something that could change the world forever such as terroristic incidents or deadly plagues, but a wedding.  Actor George Clooney married his girlfriend, Muslim attorney Amal Alamuddin in a star studded wedding in Venice and the world is rejoicing at the marvel that someone seems to have finally tamed the eternal bachelor.  They ate.  They drank.  They married wives.  They were given in marriage – until that day…

People are asleep.  Full of junk foods and drink and sports and greed and mind-emptying entertainment and sex and lies, they turn off anything which might disturb their virtual existence and self indulgence and don’t realize the Hell which is about to be unleashed upon the earth.  Sadly, many born again Christians are in this same boat choosing to build their houses on sand – completely unprepared for the storm which lies ahead.

And then there’s Satan.  Still scheming and still influencing as he has since the garden of Eden.  That Satan’s scheme with the Nephilim (see As in the Days of Noah parts 1-10) ultimately failed did not dissuade the fallen cherub, for he has tried again and again and again to thwart God’s plan and ultimately to place himself in the place of God. We see him at the Red Sea and at the killing of the babies before.  We see him with Goliath and with the various empires which subjugated the Israelites throughtout their history.  We see him in Herod’s murder of the children of Bethlehem 2 years and younger and at the mount of Temptation.   And though his head was ultimately crushed at Calvary, you have to give him an A for trying because he is busy still – though he knows his doom is sure.

How is he trying to thwart God’s plan today?  He’s doing it by using the same playbook he has used from the beginning of time with only slight tweaks to reflect the times.  He spurs an inordinate fascination with the occult even to the point that a recent New York Magazine article informed its readers about “Everything you need to Know about Ghost Sex!”  Indeed, the media itself is such a great tool for Satan that given just a little time, he can use it to shape just about any opinion he wants.  Things that were once thought of as good (such as traditional marriage and Christian morality) are now seen as bad and things that were once bad are now celebrated as liberating and good.  The tyranny of the tube allows for little variation from the accepted norm and increasingly we are seeing disagreement with these views may result in marginalization, rebuke, and punishment.  With Government institutions stepping into the fray, it’s not a safe time to be an outspoken Christian – if you count safeness in terms which exclude the supernatural.  And, I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse.

One can see Satan is not very original in his tactics – but then again, it isn’t for lack of intelligence.  It’s for lack of need.  Why invent new tactics when the old ones are so effective?  In the beginning he promised Eve that if she followed him she and Adam would be as gods.  He promised great knowledge and understanding.  And he caused her to question what God had explicitly said.

When Satan tempted Christ, he sought to thwart God’s plan by appealing to the Humanity of Jesus and offering him all the world in exchange for his allegiance. It didn’t work, but it just shows that if the perfect spotless Son of God is not above temptation, neither are we.

And so, we see him using the same tactics today.  The same lies in new packages with glittering promises of health, comfort, and immortality.    You can be as gods is the lie believed by many a cult and false religion; yet, it is a lie that is embraced as heartily as it was in the days of Eve and in the days of Noah.  However, it is not just the religionists that embrace this lie.  Modern science is now doing it as well.  While disavowing the existence of the Almighty God and rejecting His role as Creator; many are trying to set themselves in His place and create their own future where they reverse the curse and live as immortals.  In the words of the head of engineering at Google and preeminent thinker and prognosticator, Ray Kurzweil, when the question was posed “Does God Exist?”  his answer was “well, not yet.

For these visionaries, the ultimate quest of mankind is the preservation of life.  Life, as they define it, is really made up of the internal software of the human mind, knowledge, and personality.  Kurzweil and others like him are feverishly working towards a time where they can download that software and place it into new hardware shells (i.e., robotics, humanoids, avatars).  Their movement may seem fringe, but it is growing exponentially as the race is on for immortality.

For the next several posts, we’ll take a look at this movement, its promise, its pitfalls, and its possible role in Bible prophecy.  Stay tuned!

As in the Days of Noah, Part 10 – Ghosts, Goblins and Giants – Oh My!

© Celwell | Dreamstime.com - Abbey Ghost Photo

Just in time for Halloween!

So far, we have seen how that the history of what happened in Genesis 6 seemed to dog society for several centuries later.  We’ve also seen that while nephilim existed after the flood, they were somehow weakened (though not weak) and more susceptible to being targeted and killed.  The attempt Satan had at creating something immortal that would be in his own image proved to be quite mortal – to the point that the very name Rephaim becomes synonymous with death.   What happened here?

Taking a cue from the book of Enoch and then cross checking it with Scripture to see if the story is plausible, we see where the punishment that God meted out to the angels who fell was twofold.

1) They would be confined in chains of darkness until they were ultimately judged.

2) They would have to sit and watch as their progeny killed themselves off (prior to the flood).

The nephilim, or progeny of the angels who fell – who were half spirit/angel have human also had a punishment.  For them, there would not be rest.  Instead, they would wander the earth as evil spirits – always hungry but never being able to be satiated.

Book of Enoch, 15

8 And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon 9 the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men and from the holy Watchers is their beginning and primal origin;10 they shall be evil spirits on earth, and evil spirits shall they be called. [As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on the earth shall be their dwelling.] And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, but nevertheless 12 hunger and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them.

Does Scripture support this story?  I believe it does.

First, we see in Jude 1:6

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Likewise in 2 Peter 2:4 we read

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

Second, we know that the days of Noah were marked by extreme violence:

Genesis 6:11-13

The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.  And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth. And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

We saw earlier how part of that corruption involved actually corrupting the human genome by intermixing with Angelic beings.  This corruption begat violence and if the book of Enoch is to be believed the violence devolved so badly that they were actually cannibalizing one another.

Third, there is the name “Rephaim” which is the generic term for the giant offspring of angels and humans.  Early in the Old Testament, you see where the Bible uses the term Rephaim רְפָאִים to refer to the race of Giants in a more generic way (giants) and in a more specific way as Rephaim.  For example, in our passage in Genesis 14 referred to in the last post, there was a tribe of giants living in Ashteroth Karnaim called the Rephaim. However, most of the time we see it just translated as “giant”  A few examples are these verses:

Deuteronomy 2: 11, 20 – Which also were accounted giants,  as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.

“That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims

Deuteronomy 3:11-  For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of giants; behold his bedstead was a bedstead of iron; is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? nine cubits was the length thereof, and four cubits the breadth of it, after the cubit of a man.

2 Samuel 21:20 – And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.

In each case here where you see giant, the underlying Hebrew word is rapha or Rephaim.

But then something interesting happens. Fast forward a little…

Isaiah 14:9 – Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

Isaiah 26:13-14 O Lord our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name.

They are dead, they shall not live; they are deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed them, and made all their memory to perish.

Proverbs 9:17-18
Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.

Proverbs 21:16

The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.

Psalm 88:10 -Wilt thou shew wonders to the dead? shall the dead H7496 arise and praise thee? Selah.

In Hebrew, there are at least two different words used for dead or deceased. Muwth מוּת meaning “to die, kill, have one executed” and Rapha רְפָאִים meaning “ghosts of the dead, shades, spirits.” In both the cases of the giants and the cases of the ghosts, shades, and spirits the word used is:

רְפָאִים

Same vowel points. Same word. To be sure, the context determines the translation. But isn’t it interesting that we see the evil half-breed Rephaim called out early in Scripture and after a time, as they die out, the word begins to be translated dead and the meaning of ghosts, shades, and spirits takes over?

The book of Jude speaks of them as the wandering stars.

Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.

Just as the book of Enoch depicts, they are now seen as disembodied evil spirits, ghosts, shades.

Certainly, the word Rapha when used in the context of death could have a meaning applicable to someone who is not a half-breed giant. Not trying to argue that it doesn’t. Still, in some cases it seems to refer to the half-breeds.

So, now we come to the question of who are the spirits of the dead that the Bible talks about? It is quite popular today to try to conjure up ghosts of the dead and talk to them. Paranormal shows such as Ghost Hunters and Ghost Adventures have been so popular that the whole genre has just taken off. Are people playing with fire?

Yes!

Deuteronomy 18:10-11 states

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

The Hebrew word for necromancer here just refers to inquiring.  In Deuteronomy 18, seeing that it is coupled with consulting with familiar spirits and wizardry, it is clear that this is referring to one who inquires of the dead or the spirits.  The phrase consulting with familiar spirits carries with it more than just your normal carnival show table shaker.  Rather, it was believed that those who consulted with familiar spirits were possessed by a python demon who would call up the dead.  In other words, a consulter of familiar spirits was a demon possessed person who could bring up what they believed were “the dead.”

The word daemon or demon comes from the Greek and means an inferior god or goddess.  Considering the connection we have seen between the Nephilim of old and the ancient gods, it takes only a small leap to see that when one engages in necromancy, they are literally exposing themselves to possession by these evil spirits condemned to wander the earth and the “dead” that they speak to are familiar to them because they are of the same stock!  In case that wasn’t clear enough, the ghosts that are sought out so frequently today are nothing but malevolent spirits under the condemnation of God whose goal it is to plague and deceive human kind.

Are there any appearances of ghosts that weren’t of this type?  Biblically, I know of two.  Samuel and Moses.  Saul had that consulter of familiar spirits, the witch at Endor, call up the ghost of Samuel and God allowed him to come.  Why?  To pronounce judgment upon Saul.  Likewise, Moses appeared after his death on the mount of transfiguration for a very specific purpose put forward by God.  So, biblically speaking, it isn’t a 100% certaintly that the dead can not have appearances after they have died and not all appearances are imposters.  However, they only reappear on this earth when God has a special purpose for it – not because we were doing something that He in His word has forbidden.

So, next time you turn on your ghost shows and see folks like Zak Bagans of Ghost Hunters asking entities to possess him (yes, he literally does this), ask yourself who is he likely contacting?  I’d say the overwhelming proof is that he is contacting those who are closest to him and can hear what he is saying.  The descendants of the fallen angels, the Rephaim, are malevolent wandering spirits on the earth.  Those who are in Christ are in heaven (to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord – 2Co 5:8).  Who is most likely to answer the call of one ignoring God’s admonitions?  Do not be deceived.

When the rich man died and went to Hell and asked Abraham to send the beggar Lazarus with water to cool his tongue, Abraham stated in Luke 16:

24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

Don’t be tricked by Satan’s tempting treats.  They are full of poison.

As in the Days of Noah, Pt. 9 – Who’s Your Neighbor?

Taking a look at the family tree of the Nephilim is difficult as it stops entirely at the flood and then restarts after the flood for some time.  Are there Nephilim today?  Not in the same way there were – but there could be (something we will deal with shortly).  What we do know is that somehow the phenomena of the Nephilim survived the flood (though no Nephilim alive during the flood survived the flood in the flesh) and continued for quite some time.  Biblically, the last we hear of them is around the time of David; however, archaelogically, I believe we have evidence of other than fully human giants in the Americas and around the world.  The Nephilim lived for some time, though apparently in an increasingly weakened capacity.  Perhaps this was a result of the change in atmosphere after the deluge.  Probably would take quite an environment to sustain a race of giants.  For now, it seems the old fashioned brand of Nephilim (that is creatures who are the result of fallen angel-human relationships) have all but died out.

Who were they?

Well, there were multiple tribes of giants during biblical times – all of which fought against God’s people and all of which were defeated.  Often, when God saw one of these tribes, He basically said wipe out the whole tribe, man, woman and child.  Why not just do it Himself?  Well, it seems that God had a plan.

Prophecy teachers such as L.A. Marzulli, Gary Stearman, Russ Dizdar, Chuck Missler, and Tom Horn have all alluded to the fact that the history of the Old Testament and the New – and even the history of today – is a seed war.  It is Satan’s seed versus the seed of the woman.  Satan has been trying for 6000 years to upset the apple cart of God’s created order and God seems comfortable with giving him a little license.  It’s like the puritan quote that Paul Washer used.  Why do the heathen prosper?  Why does God just not wipe out all the evil in the world?  Why does He allow evil people to get rich and have fame and fortune?  The same reason that a farmer fattens a calf.  It’s for the kill.  God allows evil to prosper because all of the theories of how we can do life without God will one day be shown to be nothing.  You think you can make man in your own image?  I’ll give you everything you say is important.  I’ll make you important in the world.  And, on the day of judgment you will see it was nothing.  It was less than nothing.  Same with Satan.  He is still trying to be like the most high.  He failed at Calvary forever.  He will fail in the end.  But God still lets those who follow him have their own ways because their rejection of God’s ways are all a part of their greater judgment.

And also after…

We have noted how the Bible says there were giants in the land in those days and also after.  After?  How so?  Didn’t God destroy all the Nephilim?   Yes.  He did.  But that doesn’t mean that Satan didn’t try again.

The book of Enoch says that the children of the fallen angels were destined to roam the earth as evil spirits seeing that they were also a spiritual seed.  If that is so, they could have inspired a lot of mischief.  Genesis 6 seems to indicate that they did:

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.

This would seem to indicate that the way we got Nephilim after the flood was the same way we got them before.

So, who were they and were did they live and where did they go?

Battling the Titans

In Genesis 14, we see a curious battle.

And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emins in Shaveh Kiriathaim,

And the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, which is by the wilderness.

And they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites, and also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar.

And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim;

With Chedorlaomer the king of Elam, and with Tidal king of nations, and Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar; four kings with five.

10 And the vale of Siddim was full of slimepits; and the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah fled, and fell there; and they that remained fled to the mountain.

11 And they took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah, and all their victuals, and went their way.

12 And they took Lot, Abram’s brother’s son, who dwelt in Sodom, and his goods, and departed.

13 And there came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Hebrew; for he dwelt in the plain of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner: and these were confederate with Abram.

14 And when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his trained servants, born in his own house, three hundred and eighteen, and pursued them unto Dan.

15 And he divided himself against them, he and his servants, by night, and smote them, and pursued them unto Hobah, which is on the left hand of Damascus.

16 And he brought back all the goods, and also brought again his brother Lot, and his goods, and the women also, and the people.

On the surface, this just seems like a battle of warring tribesmen.  The cities of the plain, Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and Zoar had been in servitude towards the Elamite king Chedolaomer and ultimately rebelled.  This brought Chedolaomer down to quell the rebellion; but, it seems he had to first wipe out their line of defense.

The Bible speaks of him first smiting several groups.  The Rephaim, Zuzim, Emim, Horites, Amalekites and Amorites were all on the hit list before he then gets to the cities of the plain who join him in battle.  Why would he have to go after these others before taking on the rebels who drew him down to the valley in the first place?  Reading a little into the text, I would submit that the cities of the plain were somehow allied with the groups mentioned above and these groups could have made the job much more complicated for Chedolaomer if he hadn’t wiped them out first.  Who were the groups?  Here is where it gets even more interesting.

1) Rephaim – the KJV translates this word seventeen times as “giants”.  It comes from the root rapha

רְפָאִים

which is identical to the word used later in Scripture for deceased but refers to “ghosts of the dead, shades, spirits” or “flaccid, feeble, and weak”.  They were apparently giants, but not like those of old.  Whereas the old Nephilim were overlords over the people of their day and somewhat unstoppable by human beings until the flood came, the new breed of nephilim was a weaker (though still strong) more mortal creature on his way out.  By Isaiah 26, it would appear the Rephaim, at least around Israel, were largely wiped out.

2) Zuzims – The term Zuzim means “roving creatures”.  These were giants who were apparently synonymous with the Zamzummims of Deuteronomy 2, which means “plotters.”  Interestingly, there is a well at Mecca in Saudi Arabia that Muslims frequent on Hajj.   It is called the Zamzam well, and Muslims believe it is where God called up water for the dying Ishmael after he and Hagar were driven from their home.  Today, if one drinks of the well, they are supposed to have their sins forgiven.  Related?  It would appear so.

3) The Emim – The word “Emim” literally means “terrors”.  These were apparently some big ugly dudes and people were very frightened of them.   They are apparently synonymous with another group of giants – the Anakim, or long necked ones, that we see in Deuteronomy 2.

The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims;Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims (Deuteronomy 2:10-11).

4) Horites – the Horites are a tribe that appears a few times in the Bible and were driven out of their land by Esau.  They were apparently cave-dwellers.  The bible does not explicitly call them giants; however, many authors have contended they were.  Due to their inclusion in this list, it appears reasonable that this was the case.

5) The Amalekites – the Amalekites are also not specifically called giants; however, three things lead me to believe they were.  First, their inclusion in this list of giants.  Second, the fact that in Arabic the word Imliq (عملاق) means giant, and third, that God ordered Israel to utterly wipe them out.  They were war-like people and even have been referred to those who lick blood (something that would fit with the book of Enoch’s characterization of the Nephilim).  And, it has been claimed that they hailed from Mecca – which might link them to the Zamzummims.

6) The Amorites – is the final tribe mentioned and they are described in the book of Amos as a people whose height is as high as the cedars.

So, in this text, it is clear that the Giants are the first targets even before the cities of the plain.  And just to be clear, these were not humans with glandular issues.  These were vicious giant beings who were a different race than human.  We see this in Numbers 13:13 where it talks about their descendents, the Anakim whom the Israelites ran into when they reached the holy land.  It calls them giants and says they come from the giants.    The word for giants that it uses is nephilim.  Therefore, it’s pretty clear that the giants after the days of Noah were from the same stock as those before.  Apparently, Satan wasn’t willing to quit at that scheme.  He would be like God and was trying to create beings in his own image while destroying the creation of his arch-enemy and judge, our Heavenly Father – the one true God.

Right from the beginning Satan has had his seed and God has had his seed of the woman.  Just as the Lord prophesied, they have been at enmity with one another from the beginning.  We see it before the flood.  We see it during the time of Abraham.  We see it when the children of Israel reached the promised land under Moses.  We see it with David and Goliath.  If Satan isn’t trying to wipe out God’s people he’s trying to corrupt them both morally and genetically. He dangles the same forbidden fruit before their eyes and it appears many have bitten to their utter peril.

Again, it wasn’t just the homosexual sin of Sodom that got it condemned so severely.  This was one of the sins of Sodom, to be sure, and is not something to dismiss (Lev 18:22Lev 20:13, 1Co 6:9, Rom 1:27) . Still, homosexuality and a lack of hospitality and brutal language have existed in just about every society that ever was and we have not seen God act in such a forceful and immediate manner.  God is very gracious in not destroying us today for many of the same sins which thrive in our society.  And, the Bible says of some sins that it will be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah than those who commit those sins – so it wasn’t the ordinary every day sin that we see in our society today.  Rather, the inhabitants of Sodom and Gomorrah and the other cities of the plain had made room for that which was against God.  Their sin of wanting to “know” the visiting angels with Lot was more than just traditional sodomy.  They understood full well the origins of the powerful beings about them.  They had just seen swaths of them wiped out by Chedolaemer, and they wanted to somehow unite with them again.  Maybe they thought that by so doing they too could be Gibborims as Nimrod began to be.  The scenario fits the punishment pretty well.  Wherever you see this kind of activity, you can be sure, judgment is going to fall – just as it befell the nephilim of old.  Just as it befell the angels that fell.  And just as it will befall the master architect of their whole schema.  It’s a warning we should heed – but evidence shows we are very slow learners and that which happened before may be about to reoccur.  Stay tuned.

As in the Days of Noah, Pt. 8 – The Days of Noah and the Days of Lot

Continuing on our last thought, we look at Jude’s parallel passage, 2 Peter 2

1But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction…

For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;

And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

(For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

10 But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities….

Wow!  What a passage!  I didn’t post the entire chapter, but recommend its reading.  So much meat herein, but for our purposes we’re just concentrating on the angels who fell and those who follow after their ways.

First thing I notice is how often the Bible intertwines the days of Noah and the Days of Lot.  We of course see it in this passage and in Jude, and we see in Luke 17 where Jesus says

26 And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.

27 They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

28 Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;

29 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

30 Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.

At first this passage doesn’t seem to say anything more than life will continue as it was then Jesus will come.  But, we know from the context of Scripture, that this interpretation is not true.  Life will not continue as it has but will become worse and worse.  When you go to the days of Noah, they drank – and they got drunk.  They married wives and the fallen angels took wives.  It also appears that wives were given to them, the fallen ones.  And this continued until the flood came and God destroyed them all.  It may seem I’m taking a little liberty with the interpretation here – but the angels are the only ones that Genesis talks about in terms of marrying in that portion of Scripture, so I think it has biblical basis.

During the days of Lot, humanity was once again corrupting itself with the very sins the watchers or fallen angels plagued them with.  They ate (given the violence of Sodom and Gomorrah I wonder if there is more to this than just eating.  Certainly eating things sacrificed to idols would have to be a part of the sin, for eating in itself would not be a sin much less worthy of being called out for a reason for judgment).  They drank (likely to excess).  They bought and sold.  They planted .  They built.

 Don’t Be A Nimrod

What sort of things did they build?  Cities.  Great cities.  Nimrod was a great city builder.

Genesis 10

He was a mighty hunter before the Lord: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the Lord.

10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

11 Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah,

12 And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city.

He was also the rebel.  The name Nimrod means “rebellion”and in his days there was a great rebellion.  It started with him.  The passage in Hebrew says that Nimrod began to be a mighty one or a גִּבֹּר  Gibbowr on the earth.

That word Gibowr is very interesting.  The first time we see it is in Genesis 6.

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men  which were of old, men of renown.

The word for “mighty men”is gibborim – the very same word used for Nimrod!  Nimrod, great grandson of Noah – who was still alive at this time – is being associated with the Nephilim of just prior to the flood.  Was Nimrod a Nephilim?  Scripture doesn’t say so, so I can’t presume he was; but, the memory of the Nephilim and what they did was still very close in everyone’s memory.  I think it is possible that he was attempting to do what they had done – that is, trying to become a god-man in the sight of the descendants of Noah.  History tells us, to some degree, he succeeded since the empire which he is credited with building (Sumerian into Assyrian) was bustling in both development and demon-god worship.

Could this be Nimrod?

Nimrod has also been identified as the  Sumerian king Gilgamesh , who was a giant, by multiple authors and there are certain similarities.  Both were certainly tyrants.

Of Nimrod Josephus states:

2. Now it was Nimrod who excited them to such an affront and contempt of God. He was the grandson of Ham, the son of Noah, a bold man, and of great strength of hand. He persuaded them not to ascribe it to God, as if it was through his means they were happy, but to believe that it was their own courage which procured that happiness. He also gradually changed the government into tyranny, seeing no other way of turning men from the fear of God, but to bring them into a constant dependence on his power. He also said he would be revenged on God, if he should have a mind to drown the world again; for that he would build a tower too high for the waters to be able to reach! and that he would avenge himself on God for destroying their forefathers !

Further, the name Nimrod may have been a nickname – as if the tyrant who caused the people to rebel against God wasn’t worthy of being called by his given name but by the name he acquired through his character.  Regardless, that was his likely character and all of this with an association with post-flood Nephilim.

As in the Days of Lot

Then there is the association with Lot.  Peter talks about this and about how righteous Lot was vexed by their very conversation.  A just man in an unjust world watching as men blasphemed and railed against and condemned the righteous.  Was this the speaking evil of dignities that Scripture speaks of?  It is certainly a rebellious spirit that will not be ruled by God or man.  Their bully-like tactics the evening that the angels visited was probably only one small aspect of what Lot had to deal with.  He knew how wholly evil they had become and would rather give them his own virgin daughters than to watch the order of God be defiled by their desired rape of the angels.  How horrible.  This is no doubt the reprobate mind that God gives men over to – a kind of insanity that breeds only evil thoughts continually.  Everything they did was for their own glory and to satisfy their own lusts.  In short, they too wanted to be as gods.

It started at the beginning –

Flipping back to Genesis 3,

1b And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:

But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.

And Eve took the bait.  And, Adam followed Eve.  And humanity fell.  Eating a piece of fruit was far more than an act of disobedience.  It was a willing act of defiance which said “I will partake of this which is forbidden – though it be a poison – because I will be like the Most High by doing it.  I will be a god.  I will master my own world.  Thanks God for the gifts – I know better and I want more. ”  It wasn’t that they were tricked.  They were told what would happen.  They, in pride like Lucifer, stepped out on their own, in defiance of God and ruined their perfect souls.  In so doing, they brought spiritual death to humanity and signed us up for the just condemnation that Lucifer will receive – except for God’s grace upon His elect – all will be justly damned for this choice to defy God and to embrace sin.  Praise God for His grace and for His justice!  The breach can be repaired – but only by the penal substitutionary death of His Son.  Will you accept Him?  Or will you, like Lucifer, seek another path?

God is not a capricious God.  When He acts it is with purpose and with a measured response.  The judgments that came upon the earth due to Adam and Eve’s sin, due to the Nephilim’s sin and due to the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah may seem extreme in our day – particularly in a land where ISIS reigns in terror and there is evil at every hand.  But don’t think it isn’t coming to us as well.  God is not to be trifled with and wherever you see His holy order disturbed, judgment will commence.

A Giant Problem: As in the Days of Noah, Pt. 7 – Dancing to the tune of the Covering Cherub

It must have been strange to live in Bible days, particularly the Old Testament time period.  Oh, it wasn’t strange to them, because that was just life.  But it is as foreign to us as our life would be to them.  However, if we sat down and compared notes, there would be some definite and not obvious similarities, particularly in the areas of “What are we here for?” and “What is trying to interfere with that purpose?”

One area where we can see interference during the days of Noah and during the Old Testament period is the area of the giants, descendants of fallen angels and human beings. In Ezekiel 28 we see two leaders of the kingdom of Tyre. We see the prince of Tyrus in verses 2-10 and the the king of Tyrus from verse 11-19. I would submit that the prince of Tyre is an earthly prince of the kingdom of Tyre in the Lebanon region just north of Israel. The King of Tyre, however, is Lucifer Himself as it is clear from these verses that it is not speaking of an earthly ruler. How interesting that the ruins of ancient Tyre are about 38 miles away from the peak of Mt. Hermon (about 33 miles away from its base) where the fallen angels made their pact. Certainly, that area of the world is demonically charged.

Let’s see what it says about Lucifer:

12 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.

13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

In the above verses, we see where Lucifer was put in a special role in the garden of God, the garden of Eden. He was a most beautiful creation, and, he was associated with music (the tabret being essentially a tambourine and pipes being some sort of wind instrument). This was his role. This was the job gave him. And, oh, can’t we see today what a special role it was! Music moves people. Music in and of itself can be an instrument of praise to God. Whoever has been gifted musically has a very powerful tool in their hands. It is meant for the worship of God and the edification of His people. Any other use is illegitimate. And, this is part of what Lucifer did. He misused the gifts of God for his own purposes.

15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned:

Lucifer was gifted with many talents. He was anointed by God and such a precious part of God’s creation – but then he started being filled with pride and started using his gifts for what they were never intended. He started using them for his own glory. And it ate away at the glory God created in him and ultimately destroyed him.

The world for violence here is chamac חָמָס and it means violence, cruelty, injustice, wrong, unrighteousness. When we allow pride to rule in our lives, when we start using the gifts God gives us for any other purpose than His glory and the good of His children, we do violence to ourselves and begin to saturate our souls in unrighteousness. Look at today’s music? Full of violence and murder and sexual immorality and the degradation of God’s creation – and what happens? The people love it! By filling your mind with ungodly music, you degrade your own soul and you quench the spirit of God. Modern music is a poison. Stay away!

So, having ruined himself and profaning the gifts of God, God casts Lucifer out.

therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee.

19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.

Lucifer’s judgment is sure.  He defiled himself with evil and his choice will be his ultimate condemnation.  And we will all see his destruction and we will be astonished.  We see this elaborated upon more in Isaiah 14 in a prophecy against the king of Babylon (another name for Anti-christ during end times).

He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.

The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.

Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.

Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.

10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?

11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.

12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?

18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.

19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.

20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.

After this earth is judged, and after the 1000 year reign of our Lord Jesus Christ on earth, after the regathering of God’s people Israel to Himself – Satan will be judged.  And, the Bible says we will be stunned.  “Is this the man that persecuted us? ”  I look forward to that day because I’m about as sick of Satan and his vices as I can be!

But notice more of Lucifer’s sin is laid out:

13 I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Such pride!  Such arrogance! I will be a god!  Nevermind the real God. I don’t have to be ruled by Him.  I can make my own path, gain my own glory, have my own power and rule over my own universe.  And yet, it is exactly the temptation that is one of his chief lures.

This was the sin of the angels who fell.

Jude says:

I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

From the “likewise”in this passage, we can infer that the fallen angels did the following:

1) Kept not their first estate (that is, they didn’t stay within the role that God wanted for them)

2) Gave themselves to fornication (sexual sin is a direct rebellion against the Godly order)

3) Went after strange flesh – went after the forbidden flesh of human beings and intermingled themselves with it

4) Were like Sodom and Gomorrah – the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah is not just homosexual sin – remember the men of Sodom wanted to have sexual relations with the angels.  This revelation helps us understand the severity and finality of the judgment against Sodom. God was nipping this rebellion in the bud right then and there.

5) They defiled the flesh – again, with their sexual sin and with the poison of rebellion which was literally changing their DNA.  The noetic effects of sin on humanity have been lasting and strong and only Christ’s blood can overcome them

6) They spoke evil of dignities (more on this in a bit)

7) They spoke evil of those things which they knew not (that is, they speak evil of the truth of God which is not discernable to the spiritually corrupt).

8) They indulge sinfully in the natural thereby corrupting themselves

A Parallel passage to Jude is 2 Peter 2 – which we shall turn to in the next post.

A Giant Problem: As in the Days of Noah, Pt. 6 – And Also After…

Now, we’ve kinda touched on the biblical story of the fallen angels which took wives (and apparently fornicated as well per Jude) of human females and had hybrid children by them that were giants.  We’ve also touched on the book of Enoch’s story a bit in which the fallen angels lusted after human women, made a pact together at Mt. Hermon -to defy God’s order and go into this thing together by taking what they wanted and marrying the women.  They did this because of lust, but also, no doubt because of the allure of being seen as independent of God and indeed being thought of as gods themselves.  Ancient stories of Greek and Roman gods no doubt do have their genesis in some of the strange goings on during the days of Noah when the ‘gods’ mated with human females and begat ‘demi-gods’ who were almost supernatural in their power and strength.  This seems to be a common theme with satanically inspired temptations.  You shall be as gods.  Whether it is the angels that fell (who did no doubt experience the feeling of being reverenced as god-like) or Eve, or the New Ager, or the Hindu, or the Mormon – the idea of obtaining godhood and being independent from the true God is not new.  Funny how Satan’s tool-chest doesn’t change a lot.  But, why should it?  Humanity never seems to get it.

Gods & demi-gods in the local bookstore

A funny thing happened while I was writing this blog post.  I took a break and went to my local B&N Bookseller to look specifically for maps to chart some of the things that are to come when I ran smack dab into a display by the children’s section of Rick Riordan’s Olympians Series.  I had never heard of them, but apparently they are quite popular and are published by Disney.  I took the above photo and purchased two titles that caught my eye.  Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Ultimate Guide and The Demi-god Diaries were clearly in line with what we are discussing and I wanted to see what the Disney-Hyperion Publications had to say.

The books are richly illustrated and creative introductions into greek mythology with a modern spin.  Characters in the books are placed into modern settings along with child-heroes who appear human but ultimately find that they are demi-gods themselves.  The Ultimate Guide includes sections in “Ten Signs that You May Be A Half-blood” and “Gods and Spirits” and even takes children on a guided tour of the underworld – included Tartarus , the place in the book of Enoch where the angels who fell were cast.  I find it all fascinating and will be reading more on the subject so stay tuned.

Mysteries of the Golan

On another note, when we look at Mt. Hermon we find that its name means ‘the sanctuary’ and that it comes from the root חָרַם which denotes being devoted to destruction.  It is also known as ‘the mountain of the oath.’ The angels that sinned meeting here to come up with their plot ties in nicely when you realize that the base of Mt. Hermon was an area in which Baal worship figured prominently and also associated with the goat-man god Pan who was associated with eroticism and the wild.  It has also been suggested that Mt. Hermon is the Mt. of Transfiguration instead of the traditional Tabor due to its proximity to Caesarea Philippi.

About 35 miles south of Hermon (as the crow flies) is an area called Gilgal Refaim or “the wheel of the Rephaim”.  At this site, a megalithic structure stands that looks all too familiar among the archaeological sites of the world.  Just take a look at the structure.

Looks sorta like some of the images at this link, doesn’t it? Hmmmmm…. Who did this?

While some of the objects are likely imitations of what went before (particularly when the circle is made up of stones that are easily moved by man), other stone circles (and megalithic structures such as Dolmens and even pyramids) are objects of speculation in terms of who made them and how they were made. Many of the stones are larger than modern machinery typically handles. And yet, we are to believe that primitive man somehow figured out how to move massive stones from quarrys miles away to set up stone circles similar to those continents away – just because????

Well, maybe not just because – but the theories concerning the whys of some megalithic structures vary from being astronomical guide points, to places of ancestor worship (Stonehenge is a famous occult worship site even today) to places of healing (due to the presence of stone called spotted dolerite). 12th century historian Geoffrey of Monmouth even had his own theory involving the dolerite stone. He concurred that the stones were for healing and were brought to Stonehenge from Ireland (where modern scholarship says they originated); but, prior to that, he said they were a product of Africa. How would they get from Africa to Ireland you ask? Well, according to Geoffrey, giants carried them there.

Could it believe there is a connection between structures such as stonehenge and the megalithic circles, Mayan, Incan, and Egyptian architecture and pyramids, and the Nephilim? I believe there is – though much of the evidence is suppressed.  Tin foil hat time?  No.  Truth.  Now, this supression has occurred a few ways.  1) Disbelief.  Modern theological minds have bought into the Sethite theory from the early medieval Catholic authorities and earlier church fathers and scholars views have been largely ignored.  2)Fakery – there is plenty of evidence, and like evidence for UFO phenomenon – the majority that you see today is fake.  (Don’t fall for the email with the 40 foot tall skeleton.  It’s very likely to be a photoshop)  3)Evidence disappearing.  There appears to be a tendency for these type things when they are found to suddenly get lost or hidden in the vaults of various institutions and museums.  How do I know?  Well, in just doing a small amount of research using Newspapers.com, I found a plethora of articles from the 1800s where people discovered the skeletons of real giants throughout the world.  Below is a sampling.

Certainly, there have been giants in the land from ancient times and certainly those of us in modern days rarely, if ever, year about them.  When people talk about beings such as Nephilim they are called fringe groups and otherwise discounted.  But if even a 10th of the thousands of articles from old newspapers is true, it is quite true that men have discovered giant remains all over the world and those remains have been hidden.  Were these remains the descendants of the biblical giants?  Again, to that I would have to say I believe many were.  Are their giants (other than those with glandular issues) around today of the same sort as back then?  To that I would answer yes, and no.  For a full explanation, stay tuned to this blog.

A Giant Problem: As in the Days of Noah, Pt. 5 – What were they up to?

Nephilim taking wife

What were the fallen angels up to?

Was it just a case of lust or was there something more?

Well, lust was a huge aspect of it.  They wanted something that as Angels of heaven they could not have.  They knew better than God and their sin was that of rebellion – just like their co-hort, Lucifer.  So, they took it.  Against God’s Holy order they defied God and took what they wanted.  Isn’t that the case with all evil?  God forbids something and the sinning individual does it any way. But, this sin of the angels was so far reaching that ultimately it was destructive of all of humanity.

The Bible says in Genesis 6

11 The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

12 And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.

13 And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Again, if it were just violence as we know it, then destroying the planet didn’t get rid of it.  Again, the Hebrew word says it was Shachath, which carries with it the idea of destruction.  A destruction of humanity.  Not only was the earth destroyed because of what had happened, but all flesh was destroying himself.  How so?  I believe by participating in the fallen angel’s scheme.  The angels went after strange flesh and begat mighty men of renowned by them.  Soon, it was a situation that all of mankind coveted.  And so, the bloodline of humanity was corrupted and God’s natural order or things was threatened with utter destruction.  God had to do something.

But, is this the way to look at things?  Is there evidence that this story as I have it laid out here is true?  If it were, I would expect to see a few things.

1) I would expect to see textual evidence in the Bible

2) I would expect to see textual evidence elsewhere

3) I would expect to see archaeological evidence

For the next several posts, we will explore this evidence.

A Giant Problem: As in the Days of Noah, Pt. 4 – Can Angels Reproduce?

At this point, it may be helpful to address a common objection to the thought that Angels, being spiritual beings, can reproduce at all, much less reproduce after other kinds.  To this, I would have to say – there is nothing in Scripture saying that they can’t; and, even if they couldn’t, nothing in Scripture indicates that they didn’t have some sort of supernatural help or somehow manipulated genetics in such a way as to produce human-angel chimeras.  Bottom line, the bene Elohim or Sons of God in the Hebrew Scriptures always refers to Angels in other passages – why not Genesis 6.  That they were angels is backed up by the New Testament authors as well – so whether we fully understand or not – they were angels.

But isn’t it true that kind can’t reproduce after kind?  I don’t think that is a given – particularly since through modern genetic manipulation, we are seeing exactly the opposite today.  In the lab, they are creating human-animal hybrids that are able to pass human DNA to their offspring.  Back in the day of Noah, it appears that they were even more technologically advanced than we are today.  Why would it be unreasonable to believe they didn’t have similar technology back then?  Also, it could be that God allowed the offspring as a judgment against them knowing that he would then introduce the angels, who formerly were eternal beings, to the death and destruction that sin causes.  The angels will face eternal judgment for what they did. No chance of redemption.   If Enoch is to believed, their dead offspring are now evil spirits roaming the earth.  There is just so much we do not know from the text in Scripture or even extra-biblical texts.  All we do know is what it says and that is that the sons of God had children by the daughters of men who were nephilim.  So – can angels reproduce?  Apparently so.

Answers in Genesis, an organization I respect tremendously, takes the opposing view and says angels are spirits and can’t have physical bodies. Not quite sure how they can say that given that scripture is replete with examples of it – including Genesis 6, but also at Sodom, in Revelation, in Acts, at the Resurrection, and even in Hebrews where it talks about us entertaining angels unawares.  They also argue that even if they had the ability to appear physically, nothing says that they can reproduce.  No.  Angels eat.  Genesis 19 clearly says the angels that appeared to Lot, ate of that which he prepared for them.  Who is to say they do not have other physical capabilities.  But nothing says they can’t.  As much as I love AiG in most areas, we will just have to disagree on this one.

So, knowing that this view is controversial, I feel it is necessary to plow forward and at least lay the framework since it is so important for what we are seeing today.  Jesus said that the latter days before His return would be As in the Days of Noah and As in the Days of Lot.   Let’s keep digging to see what all of that entailed.
